Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 October 2026
The short version
- No ads. No third-party analytics or tracking. We never sell your family's information or share it for advertising.
- A parent creates a family account during setup, so progress syncs across your family's devices. Children never type an email, a name or anything else.
- The app listens for a few seconds after each word to hear your child say it back. It does not record your child's voice, and the audio is never sent to us.
- We only send news emails if you tick the box to get them. You can delete your child's information or your whole account from the app at any time.
Who we are
Little Echo is a language app for young children (about ages 1½ to 5) and the grown-ups who learn with them. It is made by Heart & Soul Media, LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Little Echo apps for iPhone, iPad and (when available) Android, and this website, littleecho.app. Other apps from Heart & Soul Media have their own privacy policies.
We built Little Echo to collect as little as possible. Because it is made for children under 13, we follow the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the app stores' rules for children's apps, including Apple's Kids Category.
Your family account
When you first open Little Echo, a grown-up creates a free family account. The account lets you add up to 10 children, use the app on several devices (for example your phone and your child's iPad), and share progress with another parent or caregiver.
- Only an adult can create the account. Setup starts behind a grown-ups check, and you confirm you are the child's parent or legal guardian.
- How you sign in: Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google (on Android), or your email address with a one-time code we email you. No passwords to remember.
- Parental consent: creating the account and confirming it is how you give consent for us to store your child's information as described here. We then email you a short note that explains what we store and how to delete it.
What we keep
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| About you (the parent): your email address. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to share a private relay address instead. If Apple or Google shares your name, we don't keep it. | To sign you in, keep your account safe and send account emails |
| Invited family members: the email address of any parent or caregiver you invite | So they can join your family account |
| About each child: a first name or nickname, an age band, the languages they are learning and how often they hear each one, and whether Thai polite words use the boy or girl form | To build the right lessons |
| Learning progress: which words and letters were practised, on which days, and how they went, plus the text of what the app heard on a card (for example "doggy") | To choose the next lesson, show you progress and keep it in sync |
| Grown-up learner profiles, if you add one for yourself | So adults can learn with their own progress |
| Settings, such as lesson length and which games are shown | To remember your choices on every device |
| Subscription status | To unlock the full app for your family. Apple or Google handles payment; we never see your card details. |
| Basic technical records: when your account signed in, and from which app version | To keep accounts secure and fix sync problems |
A copy of your family's information is also kept on each signed-in device, so lessons work offline.
We do not collect a child's full name, birthday, photo, voice recordings, location, contacts, or advertising identifiers.
Emails we send
- Account emails (sign-in codes, the consent note, invitations, and important changes to your account or this policy). These are part of having an account.
- News and tips, such as a new language or a new game, only if you tick the box to get them. Every news email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also turn them off in the grown-ups area.
We never email children and never add a child's details to our mailing list.
Waitlist on this website
If you join the waitlist on littleecho.app, we keep your email address to tell you when Little Echo launches and to send occasional updates. The form is for adults only. You can unsubscribe at any time, or email us to be removed.
Listening (speech recognition)
When a card asks your child to say a word, Little Echo uses the speech recognition built into the device for a few seconds to check the word. The app does not save the audio and never sends it to us.
For many languages and devices, this happens on the device itself. For some languages, Apple (or Google, on Android) processes the audio on its own servers instead, under its own privacy policy (Apple, Google). Little Echo keeps only the text result.
The microphone is optional. If you turn it off, a grown-up taps Got it or Not yet instead.
The voices
The voices your child hears are recorded ahead of time and built into the app. Nothing your child says is used to make them.
Crash reports
If you have turned on "Share with App Developers" in your device's settings, Apple sends us anonymous crash reports that help us fix problems. They don't identify you or your child. We don't add any other crash-reporting or analytics tools.
What we don't do
- No advertising of any kind, and no third-party analytics, tracking or advertising tools in the app.
- No chat, social features or contact with other families. Only people you invite can see your family's progress.
- No links out of the app, purchases or settings that a child can reach: these sit behind a grown-ups check.
- We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
Who we share information with
Only the service providers that run Little Echo for us. Each works under a contract that requires it to protect the information and use it only to provide its service to us.
| Provider | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores family accounts and synced progress, in the United States |
| Resend | Sends account emails, such as sign-in codes |
| Netlify | Hosts this website and stores waitlist sign-ups |
| Apple and Google | App downloads, sign-in, purchases and speech recognition |
| Newsletter service | Sends news emails to parents who asked for them. We'll name it here before the first one goes out. |
If we add or change a provider, we'll update this list first. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to a company that takes over Little Echo, which would have to keep the promises in this policy.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply and help. We delete them on request. Please don't send us information about your child that we don't need to help you.
This website
littleecho.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Netlify, our website host, keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) for a short time to run and protect the site.
How long we keep information
- Family accounts: while your account is open. When you delete a child's profile or your account, we delete that information from our systems within 30 days, and from backups within 90 days.
- Accounts nobody uses: if no one signs in for 24 months, we email you a reminder and then delete the account.
- On your devices: until you sign out, delete the profile or delete the app.
- Waitlist and news emails: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
- Support emails: as long as we need them to help you, and deleted on request.
Parents' rights
A parent can review, change or delete a child's information, and stop any further collection, at any time:
- In the grown-ups area: see and edit each child's profile, delete a child, or delete the whole family account.
- Email us at hello@littleecho.app or write to the address below. We'll answer within 30 days.
If you take back your consent, we delete your child's information. Little Echo can't keep lessons going for that child without it.
Features we plan to add
Each of these applies only once it is in the app, and the app will explain it before you turn it on.
- Your own pictures and voice: you may be able to add your own photo or record your own voice for a word. These would be stored in your family account so they appear on your devices, and deleted with it.
- Backup files: you'll be able to save a copy of your family's progress as a file. The file stays wherever you save it.
- Android: listening uses Google's speech recognition on the device, and purchases go through Google Play. The same rules apply.
- Schools and classrooms: if we offer a classroom plan, we'll publish the details here first, including how a school or teacher gives consent for its students as the law allows.
Keeping information safe
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Each family's information is kept separate, and only signed-in members of that family can see it. Only people who need it to run Little Echo can access our systems. We keep a written security program and review it at least once a year. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Families outside the US
We treat every family the same way, wherever you live. Your information is stored in the United States. We follow the GDPR and UK GDPR where they apply: we use your information to provide the service you signed up for, and we send news only with your consent. You can ask to see, correct, export or delete information we hold about you, or object to how we use it, by emailing us. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and tell parents by email or in the app before the change applies. If a change affects how we handle children's information, we'll ask a parent for consent again.
